Interpersonal Relationships and Ethics

The teacher fosters relationships with school colleagues, parents, and agencies in the larger community to support pupil learning and well being and acts with integrity, fairness and in an ethical manner.

Rationale 10: This website is updated with community and agency links in relation to class lessons, school events and important dates for parents to know, and educational links useful to students and peer teachers alike. Parents, students, and teachers may visit the website at the beginning of the week to get a general overview of the weekly plan. Updates are made daily according to the needs of students.

KSD:

10.K.1 The teacher understands schools as organizations within the larger community context and understands the operations of the relevant aspects of the system(s) within which s/he works.
Teachers prepare students to become responsible contributors to the community. When students visit the website, they can see how their education now relates to their future. For example, when we explored how electrical circuits functioned, a link to their local electric company where interactive games was displayed.

10.S.4 The teacher establishes respectful and productive relationships with parents and guardians from diverse home and community situations and seeks cooperative partnerships in support of student learning and well being.

Through the website, parents and guardians are updated with happenings that take place in their child’s school. Parents or guardians that do not have access to the web are updated every Monday with a hard copy of information which is sent home with their child. Also, phone communication and in-person meetings happen frequently to keep them informed. We also mail positive cards directly to students.

10.D.5 The teacher is willing to work with other professionals to improve the overall learning environment for students.

Collaboration with other teachers strengthen student learning. For example, another teacher and I collaborated together to make our websites easier to navigate by adding tables and links. Every day we have prep time where we may collaborate with specialists, technology coaches, and other teachers within our grade level. Attending professional conferences, technology meetings, and inservices also assist in the improvement of student learning.
